Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for drilling operations
   • Obtain, interpret and confirm work requirements
   • Access, interpret and apply documentation required to conduct cyber chair drilling operations and confirm work activity is compliant
   • Identify and minimise environmental issues and potential hazards, and assess and address risks within scope of own role and according to workplace procedures
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment required for work activity
   • Communicate with other personnel at site according to work requirements and confirm briefings and handover details are communicated and received
2. Plan for drilling operations
   • Apply procedures for monitoring, recording and reporting according to legislative and work requirements
   • Identify any indicators of hazards while drilling and report and take necessary action as required
   • Confirm all equipment being used has been functioned tested and tests recorded and reported as per regulatory requirements and workplace procedures
3. Conduct cyber chair drilling operations
   • Conduct drilling operations as per company and client operational requirements
   • Interpret data and information gathered from monitoring system and relay to supervisors as required and take necessary action as required to control the well
   • Follow company shut in procedures in case of well control issues and implement controls to make workplace safe
4. Perform housekeeping, maintenance and troubleshooting procedures
   • Clean equipment according to workplace procedures
   • Demonstrate emergency response procedures in case of equipment failure according to workplace procedures
   • Demonstrate equipment restart after emergency shut down or power failure according to manufacturer specifications and workplace procedures
   • Complete and file or distribute documentation for drilling operations and equipment in a manner that complies with workplace and legislative requirements

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

conduct cyber chair drilling on at least two occasions, including at least one of the following:

drilling surface section

drilling intermediate section

drilling production section

running casing (surface/intermediate/production).

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply legislation, documentation, policies and procedures required for conducting cyber chair drilling

implement the requirements, procedures and techniques for conducting cyber chair drilling operations, including:

identifying, addressing and reporting potential hazards and risks

carrying out emergency response

identifying, addressing and reporting environmental issues

preparing written records and reports

rectifying any identified faults and malfunctions within scope of own role and escalating where required

work with others to conduct cyber chair drilling that meets required outcomes, including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating with others to resolve coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities.

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

key policies, procedures and established requirements for conducting cyber chair drilling, including those for:

emergencies

work health and safety

environmental requirements

safe equipment operation

adjusting cyber chair controls

identifying faults with, performing maintenance on and cleaning equipment

start up and shut down

hand signalling

housekeeping

types and characteristics of cyber chairs

cyber chair controls and effects of adjusting controls.
